Marc S. Gaffrey to Present Expert Witness Course for 2025 NJAIHA Professional Development Program (Re-Certification Program for Industrial Hygienists)

Marc S. Gaffrey, Esq. will serve as an instructor for the New Jersey American Industrial Hygiene Association’s 2025 Professional Development Courses (PDCs) on December 4, 2025. His session, “Are You Prepared to Be an Expert Witness?”, will guide environmental, occupational health, and safety professionals through the process of translating their technical expertise into effective consulting, drafting of expert reports and providing courtroom testimony.

Educating the Next Generation of Expert Witnesses

Drawing on 38 years of toxic tort and environmental litigation experience, Marc will help professionals understand how to apply their scientific knowledge in a legal setting. Marc is one of the few attorneys in the nation who is an active member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association. The course explores the fundamentals of serving as a consultant as well as a scientific/technical professional expert witness, including expert report writing, depositions, and trial testimony, and features a hands-on mock trial exercise that reinforces real-world courtroom skills.

Designed as part of NJAIHA’s annual recertification and continuing-education series, the course supports industrial hygiene and occupational-safety professionals in maintaining their professional credentials while expanding their ability to serve as expert consultants in complex litigation. Participants will gain insight into consulting best practices, the expert’s role in legal proceedings, and strategies for communicating scientific evidence effectively.

Professional Development and Recertification

NJAIHA’s Professional Development Courses offer Certified Industrial Hygienists (CIHs) and other environmental-health professionals the opportunity to earn credit toward recertification maintenance and continuing education. Marc’s session contributes to this mission by bridging science and law — providing a practical, skills-based learning experience that advances both technical and professional development goals.
