Lawrence P. Powers Receives 2018 NJBIZ Icon Honors Award

NJBIZ

Lawrence Powers, Co-Chair of Hoagland Longo’s Construction Law Practice Group, was one of 29 NJ business leaders to receive the 2018 “Icon Honors” Award from NJBIZ.

The Icon Honors program was initiated in 2017 by NJBIZ and recognizes New Jersey business leaders over the age of 60 who have achieved remarkable success and demonstration of strong leadership both within and outside of their chosen field. This year’s honorees have over 1,000 years in combined business experience and continue to inspire, innovate and create across a range of industries.

Larry has over 30 years of experience in litigating, arbitrating and mediating complex construction disputes, and regularly handling difficult loss prevention and risk management assignments for world renowned design firms and all major professional liability insurers. Representative matters that he has handled include everything from contracts for sole practitioner architects to multi-billion dollar bridge and highway projects and international building projects.

Larry has served as General Counsel to AIA-New Jersey, the New Jersey Society of Professional Engineers and NJASLA for over twenty-five years.  He regularly represents design professionals in disciplinary matters before the New Jersey State Board of Architects and Landscape Architects, New Jersey State Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors, and the New Jersey Licensed Site Remediation Professional Board.

Larry achieved a peer review rating of "AV" by LexisNexis® Martindale-Hubbell® very early in his career.  This is the highest accolade given by other members of the legal profession. He is admitted to practice in the State and Federal courts of New Jersey.  He was named "Lawyer of the Year" in 2012 and 2017 for the Construction Litigation category by Best Lawyers® for the Woodbridge, NJ Metropolitan area and was AIA-New Jersey’s Resident of the Year in 2011.  In 2015, Larry was a finalist in the Non-profit or Government Organization category in the NJBIZ General Counsel of the Year Awards program for his work as Counsel to AIA-New Jersey. As counsel for NJASLA, he was instrumental in the success of the effort to obtain closely allied professional status and licensure for New Jersey landscape architects.  Larry is also an experienced construction arbitrator and mediator.

The 2018 Icon Awards winners will be honored at an event at The Palace at Somerset Park on August 23.
