Partner Lawrence P. Powers conducted an ethics course in a seminar presented by the American Society of Highway Engineers :  Southern New Jersey on the various codes of eth­ics related to Engineers and ethical standards common to all jurisdictions. The event was held on the evening of January 11th at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Cherry Hill, NJ.

The presentation covered the NJSPE Code of Ethics and corollary NY/NJ/PA state administrative code provisions – why they exist and how they were developed; how violations of ethical rules are commonly dealt with by Engineering Societies and State Boards; and how unethical practice can affect the public health, safety and welfare and cre­ate professional liability, legal and licensure issues.

Mr. Powers has over 30 years of experience in litigating, arbitrating and mediating construction dis­putes and has served as General Counsel to AIA-New Jersey, the New Jersey Society of Profes­sional Engineers and NJASLA for over twenty years. He regularly represents design professionals in disciplinary matters before the New Jersey State Board of Architects and Landscape Architects and the New Jersey State Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors.
