Andrew J. Carlowicz, Jr. Participated in NJSBA’s Mediation Mythbusters Game Show Experience

Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, Atlantic City, NJ   New Jersey State Bar Association

Andrew J. Carlowicz, Jr. participated in busting the myths surrounding mediation at the New Jersey State Bar Association's 2017 Annual Meeting & Convention on Thursday, May 18th from 10:00-11:15 a.m. at the Borgata hotel in Atlantic City.  The program was labeled Mediation Mythbusters: A Game Show Experience and Andy was one of the experienced attorney-advocate contestants in the simulated game show addressing the misconceptions regarding both private and court-affiliated mediation in the legal community.

The contestants from diverse areas of business, employment, and construction law fielded questions in order to bust some of the myths that arise from widely held, but erroneous, assumptions about the mediation process; some stemming from a fundamental misunderstanding of the role of the mediator; and some from a simple lack of knowledge of how the mediation process can be adapted and customized to benefit particular cases or clients.   The validity of the contestants answers were confirmed – and challenged – with a PowerPoint presentation of mediation’s historical background and best practices for maximizing benefits to clients, both in the context of private mediations and court-affiliated mediations under state Court Rule 1:40 and Federal Practice Local Rule 301.1. Audience participation was encouraged.
