Experience

Al Alvarez joined the firm in 2010. He is a member of the Transactional Group where he counsels and represents governmental entities on complex legal and regulatory matters. Al previously worked in the New Jersey Governor’s Office for the Honorable Jon S. Corzine and served in numerous roles, including Deputy Chief-of-Staff, where, among other things, he was responsible for coordinating outreach efforts to New Jersey residents, communities, and civic organizations, as well as addressing concerns among specific constituencies. In addition, Al oversaw the development and implementation of specific policy initiatives within the Governor’s anti-poverty agenda and advised on issues such as housing, immigration and civil rights.

As a Commissioner on the NJ State Lottery Commission Al’s responsibilities include reviewing and overseeing the Commission’s mission to promulgate rules and regulations governing the establishment and operation of the NJ State Lottery. Al is one of seven commissioners, five of which are appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the NJ State Senate.

Prior to joining the Governor’s Office Al was an associate at the firm of Waters, McPherson, McNeill, P.C. where he primarily practiced in the areas of governmental affairs, mass torts and civil litigation matters. Al also clerked in the New Jersey State Appellate Division for the Hon. Joseph F. Lisa.
