Bridge Riepl Receives a Win in the Tax Court of New Jersey

Bridget Riepl received a win in the Tax Court of New Jersey for her client, the Township of Edison.  In Del Priore v. Edison Twp., Plaintiff argued that, as a disabled veteran, he was due back property taxes from the township dating back to the year his disability was declared (1997) instead of when he submitted his application to the township for exemption (2006).  The tax court held that that while a municipal assessor must grant an eligible veteran an exemption from the date a claim is filed, the municipality has discretion to grant retroactive refunds of taxes paid prior to the date the claim is filed. Plaintiff appealed and the tax court upheld this decision.
